Abstract
The article examines the development of the New Zealand regional variant of English, the emergence of which was conditioned by colonization, linguistic and cultural contacts. The linguistic features of the variant under study are analyzed and illustrated in the areas of its phonological structure, grammatical system and lexical composition.
